hubnews1— 6 dead, including 3 children, after helicopter plummets into Hudson Riverincluding the pilot, two adults and three children — were reported killed Thursday after a tour helicopter went into the Hudson River in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The identities of five victims were found to be that of a Spanish family: Siemens executive Agustin Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and his three young children, according to a report from The Associated Press. The pilot has not yet had their name disclosed.
Siemens is a Spanish-based global technology corporation with headquarters in Germany. Escobar’s LinkedIn account listed him as the Global CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility and indicated that he had been working with the company in diverse capacities for over 27 years.
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch at a news conference said authorities got several calls to 911 at 3:17 p.m. that a helicopter crashed in the Hudson River off the New Jersey coast. The helicopter came in upside down when it hit the water and the cabin was above water.
New York City Police Department (NYPD) and New York City Fire Department (FDNY) divers were in the water in minutes, as well as port authority personnel and other New Jersey agencies.
Four persons were rescued by NYPD divers and two additional persons were recovered by FDNY divers, Tisch said.

Very quick lifesaving measures were taken on the boats and on a pier nearby. Four people, however, were pronounced dead at the scene and the other two people were pronounced dead at local hospitals.
The Bell 206 helicopter, which was flying for tour company New York Helicopters, took off from the downtown Manhattan heliport at 2:59 p.m., according to flight tracking software and a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) statement.
The aircraft flew south, then turned to head north skimming the Manhattan shore along the Hudson River.
The helicopter reached the George Washington Bridge at 3:08 p.m. and then again turned to head south skimming the New Jersey shore.
Shortly thereafter, the aircraft crashed and splashed into the water just a few feet off the shore off Hoboken.
The Army Corps of Engineers indicated just before 10 p.m. that it had regained the helicopter.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed they will investigate the reason behind the crash.
A NTSB “go-team,” led by chairman Jennifer Homendy, was dispatched and will be present Thursday night, according to a release.
The Hudson River has a water temperature in the mid 40’s, FOX Weather reported.
No known inclement weather conditions were known to have been present that might have contributed to the accident.
New York Helicopter had not yet responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
The crash site is less than a mile from Manhattan and close to the Holland Tunnel, through which 15.8 million cars travel annually from New Jersey into New York City.
A one-mile-wide safety zone north and south of the Holland Tunnel over the entire Hudson River remains in effect, until 10 p.m., according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
“The Coast Guard and Army Corps, working in coordination with local officials, continue to support the NTSB in its ongoing investigation and debris removal effort,” states a release by the Coast Guard.
“Terrible helicopter crash in the Hudson River,” Trump tweeted. “Looks like six individuals, pilot, two adults and three kids, that aren’t with us anymore. Video of the crash is awful. God bless the families and friends of the victims. Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, and his wonderful staff are on it. Announcements about exactly what occurred and how will be forthcoming!”
At about 8 p.m., Duffy tweeted to the effect that there were no air traffic control services when the helicopter crashed.
“We pray for the families and victims. This is what we know: The tour helicopter was flying in the Special Flight Rules Area established in New York so no air traffic control services were being provided when the helicopter went down,” Duffy wrote in the post. “A few minutes prior to entering the Special Flight Rules Area, Air Traffic Control out of LaGuardia airport was providing assistance.”
Duffy explained that his agency will begin a Safety Review Team on Thursday night and provide updates as information comes in.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams spoke at a joint news conference with the FDNY and NYPD.
“Our hearts are with the families of the people who were on board,” Adams said. “It’s similar to that plane crash here on the Hudson River. Thank God we didn’t lose anybody back then. It’s still fresh and still new, the investigation is ongoing, and … the family members … we pray for them.”
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy posted on X that he was briefed by law enforcement, and characterized the incident as “tragic.”
“We are assisting the emergency response effort through the @NJSP, @PANYNJ, and local first responders,” Murphy posted.
NYPD officials said in a statement to Fox News Digital that they cannot provide further information at this time.
Prior to Thursday’s Hudson River crash, the NTSB reported 211 helicopter crashes during the past two years, including 37 that were fatal.
There have been 36 crashes in nearby New York City since 1965, 11 of which have been fatal.

One of the choppers crashed on the roof of a Manhattan high-rise in limited airspace, killing the pilot, according to a report filed by The Associated Press.
The other helicopter crashed in the Hudson River and sank as it was flown around a heliport but the pilot lived.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that the family was visiting from Spain. It is “heartbreaking” that a family on vacation got entangled in such a tragic accident, according to him.
“We had over 65 million people who visited our city last year, and just think, you’re on a vacation, you’re with your family, you want to look out at New York from an aerial perspective, and something like this happens. It’s tragic to everyone,” Adams said partially.
